7th April 2008, at 11:31am by Caesarean Section (due to baby wanting to come out feet first) weighing in at 6lb 12oz. Ava Grace Mooij made DIYFathers' Eric a father again.
At 3am Andrea knew something was going to happen, but she didn't wake me... at 6 when I left for work, she said to leave my phone on and keep it near me, the baby might be coming early (due date 16th April).
So I did, keep my phone on and close to me.
09:48 I got a call, Andrea didn't need to say anything, I answered the phone with "Are you at the hospital?” "No but I'm on my way" was Andrea's reply.
10:18 I arrived at the hospital, to catch Andrea and the midwife just walking in to the hospital...perfect timing.
As much as we had hoped the baby had not turned, at 37 weeks the baby turned to breach, and we tried everything we could, Accupressure with the Moxibustion Sticks, Accupuncture, Light near the pelvis, music near the pelvis and even going to the hospital to have a specialist try and turn the baby externally (an ECV), baby wouldn’t budge. C-Section looked like out only option, given that many doctors will not perform a breach birth in New Zealand.
On arrival Andrea had to endure not only Labour Pains, and numerous jabs but also paper work to sign off and give concent for the operation. I got changed into Scrubs looking just like one of the many doctors and attendees that were going to be in the theatre assisting with ejecting the baby through the sun-roof.
There were a few issues with inserting the Epidural, and the baby was not going to wait for anyone... once Andrea was on her back ready to be cut open, the doctor made a short lived comment, “I think we may have a vaginal breach birth” then said “no” two feet were making their way out… ”would had made a great photo” so I was told.
Well before you know it the doctors were right in there, slicing, pushing, digging then pulling… and out came a baby… a little girl… had us guessing right to the end what sex she was going to be.

Baby is well; Mother is well and are both recovering in hospital for the next several days.
And I am well
Warm Regards
Father Again Eric
