Reflections on a world without dads - a mum's perspective.

What will this world be if we didn’t have dads. There won’t be anyone to reassure you and hold you when things go wrong nor would there be anyone for the sons to go for the games with or to show off the daughter in pride.

Dads play a very important role in the lives of children. Dads and daughters have a very special relationship. Daughters look up to their dad as their mentor and their refuge. The person they want to run to in their hour of need. The one who will protect them from harm and danger. The one who will take care of them and who will provide for them. The one who will comfort them when things are not going well. The relationship between the father and daughter is very special and has a bearing on the future of the lives of young girls. A study done in 1999 revealed that girls with close supportive relationships with their parents tend to develop later, while girls whose relationships with parents are distant or cold seem to develop at an earlier age. It seems that the involvement of fathers’ seems paramount to the age of a girl’s development, rather than mothers.

Most girls idolize their dads. In their eyes their dads can do no wrong. What a beautiful relationship it is to have that bond with your dad. What would it be to be without a dad and not enjoy the joy such a relationship brings? For sons their dad is their best friend. The one who will take them to the games and who will watch you play ball. Dad is the person to whom they will turn to for advice on anything and everything.

For sons and daughters both, Dad has been their just a call away. It is observed that children who have a great relationship with their dad are less likely to be school drop outs or get into drugs and trouble. They too will be able to impart good values to their children.

What will this world be without dads? The responsibility for the moms will certainly compound as they now will have to be father and be also a mother. It is no easy task to fulfill both these roles and be fruitful with the outcome. Moms do a great job but to be compelled to do their own job and that of their dad will never compliment the role of a dad. Dad is a special person and he is someone whose role you can never put into words. He is loving, kind, supportive, strong, providing and he is a all in all.

His role towards his children is multi-facetted. He asks for nothing but is so willing to give everything to make the life of his children as best as he can give. There are instances when he is not even appreciated but yet he will still continue to give and it is only when he is not any more than you begin to realize the enormity of his love and his support that has been taken for granted. If there are no dads any more you will never know what it is that you are missing.
