The following list is of some remedies that have been passed down from differing old wise men (witch doctors basically) who have doctored the art of using any old household item to help with a baby's ailments.

Disclaimer – these are NOT medically proven but more home proven ... they may work on your baby and they may not. Always make sure you seek health care professionals advice before trying anything you aren't sure about.

And by the way - we'd love to hear your grandpa's remedies also!

Teething:
* Small baby's bottle almost filled with cold boiled water with teat and cover on, placed in freezer on it's side to freeze so that teat is full. Wrap in face cloth as it is too cold to handle for too long, and give to child to suck to sooth gums and help keep fluid intake up.

* Old split stick type wooden clothes peg {or handle cut off a wooden spoon} boiled then dried and smothered in bonjella to chomp on. Must be under supervision, may be in high chair to sooth gums.

Sore throat:
* Real lemon juice and honey and this added to a little olive oil, put a small amount in a dropper will oil the throat and help prevent mucus sticking.

Hunger:
* Bend your small finger and place the knuckle in to the babies mouth this will ascertain if the baby is hungry and if they want something to suck on.

Wind/Burping
* Use gripe water 25ml via a syringe before feeding them.
* If you are breast feeding get your wife to drink fennel tea when she is pregnant this will help with wind also.
* Mix a small amount of olive and orange oil and rub together clockwise on tummy.

For constipation
* Make sure you give them up to 30ml per day of steralised water
* Try coloxial drops in their feed.

Cracked/peeling skin
* For babies that have cracking skin place up to 10ml of olive oil in their bath to moisturise the skin, also place some your hands to rub over their body

Cold/Running Nose
* If your baby has a cold, place a small amount of vicks vapour rub on a tissue and then place between their stretch and grow and the blanket, OR place on the soles of their feet.

Old wives tales that aren't true ... we think
* Dont tickle their feet it will give them a stutter
* Dont talk to them from behind as this will make the look up and they will become cross-eyed
