Maybe its delayed shock, or maybe it’s the shock of wife’s reaction that is catching up with me what have I done. I was trusted in carrying out simple job all I had to do was take my 2 year old off to the Barber to have a haircut or trim. We arrived at the Barber shop our 2 year old was so keen to go see Frank the barber, and was enjoying the car magazines prior to his haircut. Before we knew it William was sitting in the big seat with a Wiggles frock wrapped around him holding a big nervous smile.
Frank turned and asks "what will it be, short like dads" the words from mouth say "yes a bit of trim would be great". Well before I knew it, short was interpreted as short like Dad (dad has no hair!) and the scissors had taken to the back as quick you could say crikey that's short!
However my 2 year old continued to enjoy the experience as I adapted to the new cut quickly, when it all ended he was left with a nice clean short haircut and William was proud and happy of his new style, no tears!
We left with a lolly pop in hand and trail of soft white hair on the barbers’ floor as nervous anticipation became our next enemy. What will mum think of the cut? Both father and son were proud of the outcome for their visit to the barber. Back at home the reaction was not as good as we expected my wife was completely shocked by what I had aloud the barber to do. I thought it was good but the more she picked up on the little things like his "gorgeous blonde hair" is gone, the more I started to
side with her. Oh "G" what have I done, Will it grow back? What will the Grand parents think? How long will it take to grow back? Have I changed his identity? It’s now up to the healing of time to enable the growth of new hair and at the end of day we are lucky to have a bright and bubbly 2 year old that just happens to have short haircut, like dads!
Lessons, to be learned for Dads that don’t have clue when it comes to getting your child's or baby’s haircut.
* Get very clear instructions from your partner prior to entering the barber store.
* Take a picture of the desired outcome if it helps the barber.
* Take your partner or wife to the barber with you.
* If the worst happens know that hair grows back, at least if you are under 18.
