DIY Projects For Dads And Tweens

Have you got a tween daughter? Are you struggling to connect or find out what you can do with her? Well you may want to check out makeitruby.com - a new online magazine for tween girls with a campaign on inexpensive DIY projects for Tweens. Great! Perfect for the "too old for toys, too young for boys" phase your daughter might be going through. Here's a sample project from the site:

Floral Ribbon Bracelets

Ruby's Tool Kit: plastic bracelets, ribbon, all purpose tacky glue, scissors
1. Repurpose old tired bracelets and give them a makeover.
2. Tightly wrap the ribbon around each bracelet.
3. Secure the end of the ribbon with an all purpose tacky glue.

About MakeItRuby.com
MakeItRuby.com, a new online magazine for tween girls, kick-starts its Back-to-School campaign with five new DIY projects on Tuesday, September 8 to celebrate the end of summer break. Incorporating Ruby’s eco-friendly approach of reusable, renewable and re-purposed materials, items for these projects can be readily found around the home or costing less than $5. The five projects that coincide with the start of school include a backpack, a school spirit memory board, an art caddy, a pencil pounch, and a vacation journal.

“It’s not necessary to spend an absorbent amount of money for kid supplies and school items every year,” comments Make It Ruby co-founder Joie Gharrity. “We have created several DIY projects that reuse some classroom basics and gives the kids an opportunity to exert some creative energy to coincide with their studies.”

Gharrity, a former manager in creative development for Disney-ABC Television Group’s Stage 9 Digital Media, partnered with long-time friend John Frazier for the venture. Frazier, an art director and stylist who has worked for companies like JC Penney, Land’s End, Kellwood, and others, is the creative director for Make It Ruby. “We wanted to create a wholesome magazine full of inspiring ideas for young girls that would cost little to nothing to produce,” states Frazier. “After working with clients like JC Penney and Kellwood, we have found ways to create thrifty ideas that empower tweens during these uncertain economic times.”
