Manky toys

Over the last few months I had to spend quite a bit of time in doctor's waiting rooms, hospitals and other public places where there was a dedicated play area or toybox for kids. First of all I think it's great that there is an area for kids and that many institutions provide toys to keep the little ones entertained. The downside of this is that many of these toys are in a really sad state - broken, filthy or downright dangerous. Some of them look like they have been there for years without ever being replaced or cleaned.

I understand that it's hard to keep them in order and clean but I actually think it is in the organisation's interest to keep them tidy as it affects my perception of them a lot. If I'm going to see a paediatrician and the toys are all broken or dirty it doesn't really leave me with a great feeling about the way they run their practice. It's like going to a fancy restaurant or bar with toilets that look like a pigsty - it just ruins the whole experience.

So I think organisations that do have areas for kids should regularly check, clean and potentially disinfect them (e.g. a doctor's place). This shouldn't be too hard given that they need to keep the whole place relatively clean anyway (to comply with health and safety regulations). Also I think they can REALLY win parents over by providing a safe and clean area to keep kids entertained. Organisations with a tight budgets could just ask parents to donate some of their toys next time they come for a visit - de-cluttering the house from unused toys is always worthwhile - especially if it is for a good cause and to the benefit of all families.

Just a thought ...

well this seems to be the

well this seems to be the norm, manky toys with no one actually washing them or washing them well, is this how kids get a better immune system. I would rather take my chances with pesticides!
