So I managed to get the Led Zeppelin and Nirvana versions ... initial thoughts were that I really liked the difference to your standard lullaby CDs. For starters you can easily recognise the songs which is just a great feelgood factor. Also it's just fun to listen to the lullaby version some anthems like "Stairway to Heaven" or "Smells like Teen Spirit".
Well - there's a suggestion for the folks at Rockabyebabymusic.com. All in all the CDs make a good present for some die-hard fans of these bands who have recently become a father (they might shred the CDs though if they are real purists). Worth the risk :-) Whatever you do make sure you capture the face of dad and bubs when they listen to the CD for the first time. Now here's a product review I've been looking forward to for a while - lullaby CDs with a twist! Rockabyebabymusic.com sells lullaby versions of some all time classics like the Led, Nirvana, U2, Ramones, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, etc. How cool is that (I thought). Great concept but does the execution live up to the hype?
After listening to the CD for the 10th time you do realise though that the sheer genius of the original version is a bit lost on the lullaby version. Some of them can be quite annoying actually because the instruments used (mostly xylophone type percussion instruments) make the songs sound quite repetitive. Although I haven't got the Pink Floyd CD I am convinced that the original songs are actually much nicer to listen to and equally relaxing or stimulating for the baby. Some songs are OK in the lullaby version but it would be great to have a collection of the 20 best lullaby songs from various bands (rather than having all of them from one particular band).

I bought the Metallica, Tool, AC/DC and Beatles lullaby CDs for my little guy. Needless to say...HE LOVES THEM! They're perfect for putting him to sleep, especially when it's late and my eyelids feel like lead.
I agree that some songs can get slightly annoying and repetitive but it's a very minor issue. 90% of the songs are easily recognizable and give the original versions a cool twist...a great way to introduce Jnr to the real thing when he gets older! :)
I see they're bringing out a Country CD Lullaby selection...although not my kind of music, the Johnny Cash lullaby CD might be an option with classic tracks like Ring of Fire and Walk The Line.
Hey Will - I guess "Enter
Hey Will - I guess "Enter Sandman" is ideal as a lullaby :-) Actually it's the repetition that I found challenging (every night ...). Initially I really liked it and in fact found it quite relaxing to listen to. But like I said after the 10th time of listening to Stairway to Heaven with those clink clonk sounds I had to listen to the original for an urgent guitar-sound-fix and just to get that xylophone sound out of my head. Glad to hear the CDs work for you and your kids.
I think it's a great idea in general but would prefer a "best of" version with a mix of different songs from the various bands.

They aren't that bad. We have
They aren't that bad. We have three of them, the Eagles, Metallica, and the Beatles, but you have to remember this is lullaby music. You aren't going to have to be forced to listen to this every time you start up the car to take the kids somewhere, it's bedtime music. They work quite well in that respect, and the fact that the boy flashes on recognition when I play the regular versions during the day is an added bonus.
