Travelling business class with young children

airport lounge Travelling business class with young childrenI’ve been doing a bit of travelling recently and have noticed that airlines appear to have made some efforts at improving lounge services for travelling parents. A good example is Air New Zealand who feature dedicated “Kids Zones” in their business class lounges. So I checked out their kids room at AKL airport and it’s actually quite good. They had lots of stuff for children of all ages. The selection of toys and possible activities was well thought out and provides a safe and clean environment to let the kids loose.

It’s very common these days to see young children travelling with their parents in business class or using the lounges. So it makes sense to offer some entertainment for kids and relief for parents (and probably other people in the lounge). Nice to see that lounge environments are getting more kids friendly which makes it more socially acceptable to take kids along.

Access to a lounge can really make a big difference to a long haul tavel experience – if you are fortunate enough to have access, put your airline lounge through “kids test” next time you are travelling with the family!

Enjoy

Hey David – thanks for filling in some details! I only just noticed the kids areas recently and was pleasantly surprised. Happy travels!

Just a quick note, the Auckland Air NZ Koru Domestic Lounge has a kids area (separate room like your picture) and the Christchurch domestic Koru Lounge has a corner with a few bean bags which my kids love to jump and roll around on. They have been a great help even to a domestic traveller like me!

Wow, this is awesome. I had no idea airlines were doing this. As the mom of a toddler, I dread going to the airport because there is nothing for my daughter to do and it turns out to be a struggle for all of us. I will have to keep my eyes open for these in the future! Thanks!
