If you've come across any of Eckhart Tolle's books you will know what I mean by the power of now. His key message is that the past and future don't really exist (other than in our head). There's only the "here and now" and by being fully "present" and being "in the moment" you will end up living a much happier life. Easy - right? Well as it turns out many of the modern day gurus like Tolle (or actually gurus and spiritual leaders in general) don't have kids. Once you've got kids and a family it's kind of hard to stay in the moment and not worry about the future (or the past). There are always a million things to take care of and being a parent often requires a lot of planning. How can you be a responsible dad without constantly thinking (worrying) about the future of your child?
