The following list is of some remedies that have been passed down from differing old wise men (witch doctors basically) who have doctored the art of using any old household item to help with a baby's ailments.

Disclaimer – these are NOT medically proven but more home proven ... they may work on your baby and they may not. Always make sure you seek health care professionals advice before trying anything you aren't sure about.

And by the way - we'd love to hear your grandpa's remedies also!

Teething:
* Small baby's bottle almost filled with cold boiled water with teat and cover on, placed in freezer on it's side to freeze so that teat is full. Wrap in face cloth as it is too cold to handle for too long, and give to child to suck to sooth gums and help keep fluid intake up.

Pyper has this habit since she is teething to cry around 10pm just as we are getting off to sleep and then cry until we either get her so she will go on for hours, it just drives us both a little crazy when you have had a “hard day” and the last thing you want is to get her up and then go and calm her down and play happy happy joy joy for another hour. I can understand it must be pretty awful for the little lady and that we are just trying to help her, I hope she doesn’t feel that she is doing this alone it’s almost as if we are all having our teeth come through!

We have tried a few different things one being Bonjela, the other being Waleada teething powder which to be honest looks like Cocaine of which we just put on a spoon for her and feed to her! And then there is Naturopharm Teething spray of which we have used before the teething really started and this is suppose to be great!

Now that our little champ has pushed out his first two teeth and we are (anxiously) awaiting the next ones to emerge I was wondering what the usual sequence for teething is anyway. Well - as it turns out the good people of the "Journal of American Dental Association" already did some research back in 1974 to answer exactly that question.

Eruption Sequence of baby teeth (also called "Deciduous Teeth" or "Primary Teeth") in months after birth:

After months and months of showing typical signs of teething (like drooling and excessive biting) our little man finally showed his first teeth. YAY!!! When the first tooth finally made an appearance I felt like he had been teething for the longest time ever (he showed first signs of teething at 4 months!). Anyway the first two are out now and this week we've had some very rough nights as he is now getting another two (or so we think).

I found it very frustrating to witness the extremely slow process of teething without ever seeing anything until the very end. Through all of this I picked up a somewhat useful trick to find out how far along the teeth are. Basically give them something see-through to bite on, like a transparent plastic cup. Usually you can tell where the teeth are as they are biting on it. Not that it makes those nights any easier but at least you know the teeth are coming :-)
